Gear & Sprocket AssemblyThere are many types of Garage Doors and Garage Door Openers, knowing who to call for yours can sometimes prove to be challenging. This was recently the case for one of our Richfield customers, this customer had a Craftsmen Garage Door Opener that had stopped working and was looking for a company that would service it. At Rise & Shine Garage Doors we are proud to be able to provide expert service on all major brands of garage doors and garage door openers. Upon arrival and thorough inspection of the opener, it was determined that the gear inside the opener had stripped out. This in turn cause the motor to run but the trolley will not travel. It was also determined that the Garage Door Rollers were completely worn out, which is what cause the gear to strip. After going over all the customers options it was decided to replace the Gear and Sprocket assembly as well as all the rollers on the garage door. The repair was all completed within one hour of the promised arrival time.

Reasons why Garage Door Opener Gears Strip

As a safety mechanism the Gear on a Garage Door Opener is made out of plastic. This is designed to strip out when excessive pressure of force is being used to open and close the garage door. By the gear stripping out this prevents damage to the motor of the garage door opener. Here are some common causes for the stripping of a garage door opener gear:

    • Broken or Unbalanced Garage Door Spring (When a garage door spring is broken or unbalanced this will cause the door to be heavy. An overly heavy garage door will cause the opener to work harder and strip out the gear)
    • Worn out Garage Door Rollers (When the garage door rollers get worn out the stop rolling smoothly. They in turn begin to drag in the tracks causing havoc on the rest of the operating system)
    • Broken Garage Door Cable (When a garage door cable breaks often times the door goes crooked, it is important to not try to operate the garage door using the opener as this will cause further damage to the door as well as the opener)

If your garage door opener sounds like its running but the chain or trolley is not moving this is a sign that you most likely have a stripped gear. We advise all customers to take caution and call a professional immediately. Without proper tools and training garage doors can cause serious injury. Navigating COVID-19

We are still open as an essential business

To our valued customers,

Recent news about COVID-19 is unfortunate for many of our customers and our local businesses. As we continue to learn more about COVID-19 and as other businesses start the Pause phase of the recent Executive Order, our team at Rise & Shine Garage Doors would like to express our concern for all those who have been affected. Our employees and our customers are our top priority , and we are doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of each.

We have been closely monitoring the situation since it began and fully support all precautions being taken to prevent any further spread of the virus. Rise & Shine Garage Doors has remained open and in full operation as we understand how important it may be to your daily lives to have a fully functional Garage Door. We continue to follow the plan we set in place in March when this pandemic began and will continue to do so. These are the changes we have made to our policies to help prevent the spread:

  • Our technicians will practice social distancing rather than shaking hands at the door.
  • Estimates and repair recommendations will be done remotely or over the phone while our customers stay inside or quarantined.
  • Preferably all payments will be made by credit card rather than by check.
  • We will continue to clean up after ourselves, wash our hands, and use hand sanitizer often.

The nature of our industry allows us a lot of flexibility in these times as most of our technicians are working in one to two man crews which is well under the guidelines that have been laid out before us. We even have the ability to complete all work without any face to face interactions and take payments over the phone.

We thank you for working with us as we navigate this situation.

With kind regards,

Josh Dutcher and Alex Johantgen

Rise & Shine Garage Doors Team
